Journal 2 Reading strategies

Journal # 2

          In the last  class  we finished the paragraphs about linking words, conectors and punctuation then  we read the paragraphs. Also we made the first report about the book The Picture of Dorian Gray. In my report I said this book is very descriptive because begins  by describing the atmosphere and whole this first chapter turns around question that made Lord Henry. He is a smoking man and asked many times why not exhibit the portrait?

        The  portrait is of a young man of extraordinary beauty called Dorian Gray and Basil Hallward is the painter but although is his best work he not want exhibit it  because he is afraid that he has shown with it the secret of his own soul. He has put into it all the extraordinary romance of which he will never speak. Lord Henry is friend of Basil. Henry  is married  and he said “I never know where my wife is and my wife never knows what  I’m doing” Lord Henry asked if he likes Dorian and he answered he likes me, he is charming to me. Well this was part of my report.

       The  teacher asked us that if we liked the book so most said it was not easy to understand. En  my case I think that is a book very interesting but has difficult word. I made a dictionary with the words that not  understand. Also I think is very important to read this book or anything other book because I learn the meaning of  words unknown. After made the report we had to do a exposition about scanning and skimming but first we have read, underline and understand of material to after expose it. For example: Scanning  is a fast  reading technique and can be used to look up a word in the telephone, book or dictionary. To search specific words and phrases. While skimming is used to quickly identify the main ideas of a text. After exposition we did the practice about this topic.

        To  conclude this class was very practical and entertaining because we made many activities and that help me to learn more vocabulary. Also we made a exposition and I feel that helps me  to lose the fear of talking and it gives me more confidence because in my case all this makes me very embarrassed but thanks to oral reports, expositions and other activities I could improve.

Journal 1 Reading strategies

Journal # 1

            The last Thursday was my first day of class. My new teacher of reading strategies 2 is Yerlin Solis.

          The class started with the lecture of the chronogram. The teacher explained each of the jobs we are going to do in this course, for example: we must do a written work about topic The Importance of  Implementing Reading in the Classroom and expose it obviously must be in English. I’m not sure but, I think it’s going to be in pairs. For this project we will use: APA, paragraphs must have at least 6 lines, liking words, outline, content table, problem of 1 page, 1 general objective, 2 specific objectives, justification, introduction of 1 page, body of 13 pages, conclusion of 1 page and bibliography. With regard this work I think will be very complicated but also I think that will be a  job excellent to apply everything learned in this course.

         Then she   said that we must make a class journal and posted in the blog one per class and of  one page long. If we write less than a page, will not count as a journal. Also we have to read a book called The Picture of Dorian Gray and make reading reports one chapter per week and say it in class. Finally we made work in group. In my group were Johana and Norman. The activity consisted in read for several minutes linking  words and conectors, after we read punctuation also for several minutes.

           In addition to this we did three paragraphs of six lines to practice what we learned. Our  topic was about The Importance of Drinking Water, but we could not finish it but  the teacher said finish the next class.

               To  finish this journal I just can say doing it  was very difficult because we did not do much in class only we talked about whole what we will do during this course. In my case I’m happy to go back to class because I would like to learn very well english and I know I have to work hard because it costs me a lot. Well  reading strategies is a class very interesting and important for our learning because we are going to do many projects that will help us  to have  more knowledge, trust and to improve our fluency.

With regard to the topic seen  is very important because it will serve for lifetime to improve our expression when we write.
