Journal #6

        In the last class my classmates and I, we said the reading report number 5 of the book that corresponds to read this quarter in the class of reading strategies.

        This chapter I really liked because it was quite entertaining. Then I write part of what I said about my reading report. Dorian and his friends were in the theater seeing to Sibyl Vane to act. For the friends to Dorian Sibyl is charming and beautiful but her acting was a desaster, was a complete failure. Also Basil gave your opinion about this, he think miss Vane was ill and said “we will come some other night. When the act of Sibyl Vane end, Dorian and her talked. Dorian said to Sibyl her act was horrible, it was dreatful, while Sibyl was very happy for all that had happend because the only thing that she wanted to be alone with him somewhere. For me Dorian was very cruel with her and she hambled himself a lot. He said her many  ugly and rude things.

   Then Dorian left and when he got arrived home, he saw the portrait and had a little changed in the expression, had a touch of cruelty in the mouth. It is  very interesting because everything Dorian does, sins and other things it will be reflected in the portrait because he pronounced  in Basil’s studio a mad wish that he himself might remain young and  the portrait grow old.

       Well in that class we made groups of three person and we read the AIDS outline,  Marvin and Laura read the body, Adriana read the conclusion and me I read the introduction. After  the teacher explained  new topics, Reading comprehension and 8 types of paragraphs. For example reading comprehensionare are 6 and are: make connection, visualize, ask questions, infer, determine importance, and Synthesize. Some  types of paragraphs are Narration, Exposition, Definition, Description and others.

         To  end this journal I can only  say that the class was very interesting, entertaining and of much learning because we saw new topics very important for our

knowledge. Also  we practice a lot the oral part when we said oral report and we read the homework about the AIDS outline.

Journal # 5

      The last Thursday firs we started saying the reading report number 4 of the book The Picture of Dorian Gray. When I said my reading report I felt very nervous, but I think it is very important because will helpme to improve the fluency and to lose little by little the fear to speak.

Well this chapter was very short but interesting. In this part of the book  Basil was very sad and impressed because Dorian is engaged with Sibyl Vane to be married he cann’t believe it and he said “it is imposible”, also he hopes the girl is good, so Harry said “she is more than good,she is beatiful”. When Dorian arrived they talked about his girlfriend and how happy he is. Then Harry said to Dorian, “you will always be fond of me I represent to you all the sins you have never  had the courage  to commit and Dorian answered what nonsense you talk Harry.  To the end the chapter 4 Hallward was silent and worried, he could not bear this marriage, a strange sense of loss came  over him. He felt that Dorian Gray would never again be to him.

In that class we saw a new theme about outline: introducction, body and conclusion. I think this topic is very important to learn to write an article or any written work and for this it is  essential know how to make an introduction, body and conclusion. Well the teacher explained  all this and she told us that: an introduction is made up of 6 lines, the body from a writting of 7 or 10 lines and the conclusion 6 lines, also we made group work what consisted in write an article of the AIDS outline applying the new knowledge in the introduction body and conclusion. We could not finish it, but we must finish it and take it the next class.

At finally of the class, the teacher left a lot of homework that consisted in: 1-read the 8 steps for writing a good paper. 2- Exercise on paragraphs writing.   

For me this class was very good because we practice the part oral when we said the reading report and we saw a new topic that we put in practice writing on article for the AIDS outline, which I find excellent because it allows us to improve and put into practice what was learned in that class.

Journal # 4                                                                                                   

     In the last class  we did the reading report number 4 of the book The Picture of Dorian Gray about the chapter 3. This chapter was very different from the other chapters because in this part Dorian falls  in love with a  women named Sibyl Vane. To wich  I’m find a bit confused, because I had another opinion about him.

     In the chapter number 3 Dorian was in the library of lord Henry and  he had not come in yet. Harry’s wife arrived. She said him  I know you quite well by you photographs, Harry has got twentyseven of them. Her name was Victoria and she had a perfect manía for going t church. When Henry arrived, they talked about the woman who likes Dorian. She is an actress and her name is Sibyl Vane. Dorian said the voice of Sibyl Vane I never forget, I do  love her, she is everything to me in my life also said night after night I go to see her and Henry said that is the reason that you will never dine with me but Dorian said my dear friend, we either lunch or dine together every day.

      Well he was terribly excited and lord Henry watched him how different he was now from shy boy he had met in Basil studio. Then Dorian want that Harry and Basil to come with him some night and see the act of Sibyl Vane. At the end of this chapter Harry received a telegram and he opened it and found it was from Dorian. I was to tell him that he was engaged to married to Sibyl Vane. Well, this was part of what I said about in my report.

      Then the teacher told my classmate Johan to read a information about this book and said that it  was the only  novel that published Oscar Wilde and he was imprisioned by three year by this novel and a time after died. Teacher Yerlin also reviewed last Thursda practice. In that class we saw a new topic: Context clues, are very important because are clues to help define a difficult or unusual word and the clue could appear in the same sentence. And after  we made a lot practice about this topic also reviewed it with the teacher.

       For me  the  last class was very good  because we talked a lot and that is always  excellent because it helps us improve fluency and pronunciation, with regarding  the  new topic in my case I learned for what  is and how importance it is when I read and I do not know some word.

Journal #3

         In that class we started saying the oral report number 2 about the book, The Picture of Dorian Gray. The chapter 2 of this book I really liked, it was very interesting to read this chapter. The way Lord Harry expressed  himself was  amazing. I going to write a little about this chapter. In this part of the book Lord Harry and Dorian Gray know each other. For Harry Gray is very handsome and charming. For other part Basil was worried because he wanted to finish the portraid and asked Lord Harry to leave but Dorian insisted that he stay.

         Also Gray  said to Harry that is a  bad influence but Harry said there is no such things, all influence is immoral- immoral from the scientific point of view. Also said that to influence a person is to give him one’s own soul, he does not  thinks and he becomes an echo of someone else’s. Music, an actor of a part that has not been written for him. Then Lord Harry talked about  beauty and youth, he said beauty not is for ever then said to Gray enjoy it while you have. Basil finished the portrait for Harry is an excellent work of art and Gray he liked it but he was sad and angry because he shall grow old and horrid and dreadful.

          Well my classmates and the teacher gave opinion about this chapter, they think this chapter was very superficial. I think that is true and an example was the ugly reaction of Gray when he said I wish… the picture gets old not me, also this sentence was the most important in this chapter.

           That day we also worked with the book and we saw a new topic, main idea, secondary ideas and supporting details. We read texts such as: Was there really a King Arthur  and we wrote the main idea, secondary ideas and supporting details about this text and other texts.

To conclude, liked that class so much because we talked a lot  about  very interesting topics present in the book that we are reading, for example the superficiality. We live in a very superficial world where most people appear to be what they are not. Also we saw new topic and I learned how to find the main idea or supporting details  in a text.
