Article # 5

Death Penalty

     Death penalty is not something new; it was used many centuries ago for different crimes. So, it was cruel and it is still something cruel now. The opinions about that are divided, there are some people who think no one has the right to take the life of another person because there are other options to pay the crimes. In addition, others thinks that the person who commit terrible crimes, they deserve the cruelest death.

     On the other hand, many bad people often has made terrible things such as rapes and murders and for that reason deserve the death penalty, but the problem is that the death penalty has been applied to innocent people because the justice system is never 100% correct. According the investigation of Hamilton (2006)

Judges and juries can convict the innocent, as we know from the case of Donald Marshall, jailed for more than a decade for a murder he did not commit. Most crimes end up with criminals serving jail time. Sometimes people turn up innocent. Because they were only sent to jail and not sentenced to death their sentence can be reversed. A death penalty is irreversible. The jury is also a factor in determining penalty.

     Besides if they are guilty it is better that they suffer all their lives locked up in a jail than to send them to rest with the death. According to Bible (n.d.) the law in the Old Testament ordered the death crimes such as murder (exodus 21:12), kidnapping (Exodus 22: 19) adultery (Levitical 20:10), homosexuality (Levitical 20: 13), prostitution and rape (Deuteronomy 22: 23-24). However, God was often merciful when the death penalty should be applied for example: David commit adultery and was a murderer and God did not take his life because God have an infinite degree.

      In conclusion, the death penalty is unjust and morally wrong. When someone murders someone else, the correct punishment is not to murder him or her, but to try and help them. We don’t steal from the thieves, or rape the rapists, therefore, the death penalty should be removed of the countries where is approved.

Article # 4

                                                                Abortion

      According to OMS (n.d.) “abortion is the termination of spontaneous or natural gestation and the introduced or provoked pregnancy.”

     Abortion is a very controversial topic and for many years and in all countries many people are debating if the abortion should be legal or not. Many people think that abortion is something bad, also that it is not well seen by the eyes of God and the abortion is commit murder; this is due to moral and ethical values which the people have, since the majority of people are Christian and what one of the commandments says, you shall not kill, but there are other people who think that it is okay and not is murder because the fetus not feeling.

     In the same way, the right to life is more important than all the rights that people can claim; according to the legal philosopher Shoe (n.d.) “Rights of security and subsistence are indispensable for the enjoyment of all other rights.”  Nevertheless there are some cases where the abortion it is necessary, for example when the mother’s life is in danger or if the baby is in very poor conditions and for that reason the baby will not good quality of life, but for many people this is also bad because you should receive the baby as God sends it since everything has a purpose.

     On the other hand, it's silly to think the baby does not feel. According to Curts (2015) three psychiatrists, Thomas Lewis, Fari Amini, and Richard Lannon:

Found that our nervous systems (and brains in particular), are not self-contained. From our earliest moments inside the womb, our brains actually link with those of the people close to us in a rhythm that physically imprints the very structure of our brains and influences our functioning for the rest of our lives. When we are in the womb, we imprint our mother's emotions and experiences as though they were are own. (Also backed up by researchers at the Traumatic Stress Studies Division of the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, Pregnant 9/11 survivors transmitted trauma to their children.

Despite how difficult some situations may be, it is always better to respect life; the baby is an innocent and defenseless being.

Alcoholism

     Alcoholism is as old as humanity. Alcoholism is a disease and affects many people around the world and includes many young people. It not only affects the alcoholic, but also to family and friends who result very affected by this problem. According to Webster (n.d.) alcoholism is:

Excessive or compulsive use of alcoholic drinks, a chronic, a progressive, potentially fatal disorder marked by excessive and usually compulsive drinking of alcohol leading to psychological and physical dependence or addiction. Alcoholism is typically characterized by the inability to control alcoholic drinking, impairment of the ability to work and socialize, tendency to drink alone and engage in violent behavior, neglect of physical appearance and proper nutrition, alcohol-related illness (such as hepatitis or cirrhosis of the liver), and moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms (such as irritability, anxiety, tremors, insomnia, and confusion) upon detoxification (para. 1).

     The alcoholism is dangerous; it causes work issues, family issues and social problems, but also there are many health problems attributed to alcohol such as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, hypertension, cardiovascular disease stroke, liver cirrhosis, several types of cancer and infections pancreatitis, type 2 diabetes and others. In addition to this, the terrible thing about this is that many young people are drinking alcohol. According to National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism [NIAAA], (2005) “made a study which showed that alcohol abuse can start as early as 8^th grader.”

      All that it is very sad because many people are alcoholism and getting out of this is very difficult. So, it’s important that the person accepts that has an illness, there are hope for the alcoholic; they can look for support groups such as AA. So, the person will feel good when decide change.

The role of the family in the rescue of values

          According to Sinha (n.d):

 A value system is viewed as a relative permanent perceptual frame work which influence the nature of an individual’s behavior. The values are the attributes possessed by an individual thought desirable: values are similar to attitudes but are more permanent (para. 3)

      Values like love, respect, responsibility, honesty and many others are learned in the first school: the family, but what happen nowadays father and mother are working and if they have a free time they use it to rest and children are being attacked by technologies and bad examples or simply they era alone. Also today the disciplinary models are excessively permissive, in other words, the parents of now are too lazy to educate; they have forgotten that children of today will be the man and woman of tomorrow, the future of our society and only with well stablished values will they  be honest, responsible and good citizens.

      In the same way, it is in the home where educations begins from the first year of life because if the parents do not teach values to their children; these children will be people with bad habits, irresponsible, disrespectful, delinquents or drug addicts for that reason parents should educate with love,, with example because the values they inherit today are more important than inherited assets. In addition, values are transmitted in family and this formation is complemented by what children learn in their school; this should not be confused, it is certainly in the family where the foundations for being good men and women are offered.

     It is very important that all families around the world clearly have the importance of teach values to children because only in this way the humanity will be better.

Article # 1

The Real History Sleeping Beauty

       The Disney movie was so sweet, the true history sleeping beauty it’s frightening and the first version was originally written by Giambattista Basile in 1636. According to investigation Ford (2014) in the first version it explain the history of Talia the daughter of a king. She pricks herself with a poisoned sliver when she had sixteen years old. The king was very sad; he was not able to bury her; therefore, he puts her on a velvet cloth and closes the palace and leaves; until there the history is the same.

        Many years later, a man used to hunt in the forest where the palace of the sleeping beauty was. There he saw the beautiful princess; he immediately falls in love with her; he kissed her, but for him that was not enough and he tried to wake her, but he could not. So, he had relationship with her. In other words he abused her. Nine month later the princess, still sleep gives birth to twins; a girl and a boy named soon ad moon. Children are take care of by fairies that accompany the princess. One day the boy tries to take the breast of his mother, but take her finger and started sucking it; he achieve to extract the poisoned sliver and Talia wakes up. Then the man decides to return, but to his surprise the princess is awake and she is not alone; therefore, he realizes that they are his children and decides to tell Talia everything after that they decide to have relationship, but this time consented by her. Then he returned with his wife, but without telling the reason to princess.

      On the other hand, the wife to nobleman discovers her husband’s infidelity and very annoying sends to kidnap the babies and asks the cook to kill them and cook them, but that was not enough, also decides to burn Talia. When the nobleman discovers that it made his wife, so, he orders it to be burned to. After that, the cook explain to him that he had not been able to kill babies and the princess was alive. After all that the princess and the nobleman get marry and to the cook they give the title of real treasure.

      To conclude, this history is totally different from the one we all know, but this history if present to final happy as the Disney movie.

   Today the class started at 7: 30 a.m. first of all, the teacher checked attendance list as usual. After that, we worked in group. Therefore, today’s plan for my group was to organize the body of our project, but we did not because my classmates did not do their part as they should. In addition, we split the body because yesterday we did not have class; so, Joselyn had to write about what is euthanasia, Andres about history of the euthanasia, Judith had to write about types of  euthanasia and I wrote about legalization pros and cons.

     In the same way, the idea was to attach everything we did in the next class. The problem was that they did not quote the work; I do not understand why if I sent several messages to WhatsApp explaining how to quote and I told them not to forget to quote the work. Then, I asked them why they did not quote and responded that they believed it was not necessary. Well, this was a huge delay, and, they had to correct that, but we could not do another part of the project. In my case, I worked in other thing because I did not want to waste any more time.

      On the other hand, I miss to work with Vane and Adri, but also I liked my group the girls are very special and intelligent and Andrés also; he is very funny. This week I have been very tired, thank God we almost finished this work. At the end the class, the teacher dismissed us and we came back home

     At the beginning of the class, the teacher checked attendance list and after that she gave us the finally score. All my classmates and I were happy because we won the course of Intermediate 2; in my case I was so happy because I got a good score; my score was 81. Then, the teacher told us about the job fair on September 28 and that we are going to be in groups and that each group is identified by the color of the blouse; the colors will be: blue, black, green and gray. I am in the gray group with Judith, Eliander, Andrés and others.

     On the other hand, today we continued working in the final project. So, Judith, Joselyn, Andrés and I checked the problem statement and we changed some things about that part of the research. After that, we started with another part of the work; so, today we made the general objective and specific objectives. Our general objective is: -To investigate what is euthanasia and why it is so controversial, and the specific objectives are: -To analyze pros and cons about euthanasia and – To investigate point of view politics and religious.

      Today we had a break at 9:15 a.m. so, I went to the cafeteria with my classmate Adriana. So, we had a delicious breakfast, when we returned we continued working in the final research. In addition, some groups finished early today; we finished at 11:00 a.m. then, the teacher checked our work and then we came back to home.

      Today the class started at 7: 30 a.m. as usual. At the beginning of the class, the teacher checked attendance list, after that, we went to dropbox and we checked details for our resume, for me was very difficult made a resume template, but my classmates Judith and Mary sent to WhatsApp some examples of resume template, but, I was trying to make my own template. After that, we went to dropbox again and we worked and checked the points of the investigation work.

      In addition, our work is about euthanasia, therefore we read a lot of information about it. Today we made the outline of this project. Then, we had a break; Adriana, Vanessa and I went to the cafeteria, after that we went to the library. So, I bought a pen and a corrector. When we returned, we continued with the outline, and when we finished we made another activity. So, we did a problem statement and my classmates and I wrote one page about the problem of euthanasia.

      In the same way, the problem statement was a bit difficult and complicate because is an unknown subject, for that reason was difficult to develop and also the other problem was that for members of my group this type of project is difficult, but thank God Judith is quick to write because in my case I am slow to write on the computer. So I planned the problem with help of Joselyn and Andrés and then, we dicted it to Judith. Today all the groups ended first than my group; and we, do not go out until we finished.    

 When we finished I gave the thanks to God; I feel very tired today. The class for us ended at 12.

      The today’s class started at 7:30 a.m. at the beginning of the class the teacher checked attendance list. First of all, we worked in groups for the final project. So, I worked with Joselyn, Judith and Andrés; I am the leader of my group because the teacher told me that I have a little more of experience in this type of work. Today we wrote two business letters. The first letter was made in groups, so, we made an interesting business letter. The other letter was individual and we had to send to a classmate, in my case I sent it to Vanessa.

      On the other hand, we had a break at 9:30 a.m. so, I went with my classmates Vanessa and Adriana to the cafeteria and we had a delicious breakfast. Then we returned at 10 a.m. and we continued writing the letters. Then, each classmate sent the business letter.  Then, I wrote the answer to the letter that sent me Eliander. So, I wrote for him my answer. In addition some classmates such as Ana Laura and others read the letter to the front of the class.

       After that, the teacher gave us little pieces of paper and we chose one; each paper had one name. So, the name that I chose was Adriana, therefore, as a homework; I will have to send her a business letter. Afterward, we did a new activity; we read information about how to make an email and we watched a video. Then, we made an email as practice and at the end of the class we showed it to the teacher.

      At the end, when we finished, the teacher dismissed us and we came back to home, thanks to God because I felt very tired, but the class was gratifying because I learned a lot.

       Today the class started at 7: 30 a.m. First of all the teacher checked attendance list. To this class several classmates didn’t come. Today we worked in groups; I worked with Judith and Joselyn; Andrés is in my group, but he did not come to this class. So, we investigate about three themes for the final research. These topics were: Prostitution, Why Venezuela is so divided? And Euthanasia (Right to a dignified death); we found many interesting information about these subjects.

        On the other hand, we planned possible specific objectives and general objective. After that we had a break, so, I went to the cafeteria and bought a yogurt, today I went alone because Adriana and Vanessa did not come. When we returned, we continued working in the investigation. Then the teacher asked us to choose one of the topics so, we chose Euthanasia because is a topic very controversial and we found many information about that.  

       Then, we reviewed information about APA that was in the dropbox, therefore we read all information about it. After that, we read and summarized an information about formal latter. Today’s class was very rewarding because we investigated about very interesting topics and then we chose the best subject, we also started our investigation about euthanasia known as Assisted Suicide. In addition, we learned how to writing a letter and that was important because one day we will need to send a formal letter to our boss or some company.

                                                            Article Pablo Escobar

        According to National Geographic, Pablo Escobar was known for many others names like Sir Pablo, The Godfather, The Boss, The Lord, The Magician, Little Pablo, The Tsar of Cocaine, but his real name was Pablo Escobar Gaviria. He was born on  December 1, 1949 in Rio Negro, Colombia. Pablo Escobar was the man who founded  The Medellin Cartel;  Pablo exported 80%  of cocaine to the United  States. He was the greatest criminal in history; although it did a lot of damage; he helped a lot  in his country. He was like Robin Hood figure for many locals, because he spent money to expand social programs for the poorest people.

       In the same way, Pablo Escobar was responsible for the construction of many houses and football fields  and many others, for that reason he was very popular for the poor people in his country. But also he was a very dangerous man, because he was  responsible for the killing of thousands of people between them politicians, civil servants, journalist and ordinary citizens. When he realized that he had no opportunity to become Colombian’s president and the Unites States ordering his capture and extradition; Pablo unleashed his fury against  his enemies.

       To conclude, Escobar’s fortune was estimated at $30 billion and was named one of the 10 richest  people on earth by Forbes. On the other hand, Pablo Escobar Gaviria escaped from jail “La Catedral”; he was persecuted for 17 months, the Colombian government with the help  US Intelligence groups. So, Pablo was located in Medellin and on December 2, 1993; Pablo Escobar was murdered by the Colombian police. A terrible mistake led to his death; he made several calls to his family, that gave his position.

                                                              The Good Writing

What is the importance of  good writing?

      Having excellent writing is essential for all areas of life even in each profession. In addition, in every workplace,  the workier will have that to write  a note, letters, emails and others, but for make  all this it  is important to have writing skills, this in order to communicate with clarity, because it would be terrible or embarrassing to make mistakes in a note or letter for the boss. On the other hand, the good writing gives credibility to any person who has a position in a Company or if is a  teacher doctor, secretary, etc. Therefore, it is clear that the person  who has grammatical errors or doesn’t have a good writing loses his credibility.

       In the same way, the good writing skills helps the people to express better with other person and thanks to that the people can communicate of an excellent manner. To achieve a perfect writing is necessary to combine the reading with the writing because that helps to learn new words and rules, but now that is too difficult because in the case of young people are absorbed by the use of technological devices for that reason the teenager not reads, also not practicing the writing and to make mistakes  and many times they do it all life even in its work and that is terrible.

          To conclude, for improve and have a good writing is important to have the habit of Reading and writing every day, can to make a journal, this helps to have creativity, abilities and obviously to have a perfect writing.

                                               The family

      The concept of family is extremely important in the bible, so, the concept of family was introduced and at the beginning in Genesis 1:28.

According to the bible “God blessed them and said to them, “be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds that moves on the ground. In adition, God’s plan  for creation was for men and women to marry and have children and they would form a “one-flesh unión through marriage; they and their children will form a family, the essential building block of human society, and as such, it should  be nurtured and protected, but for God the most important is the spirituality of the family.

        On the other hand, the family is union, it is communication, it is help, is motivation, is confidence, love, is mother, father and children, the family is all that in more. The family is the first school where every human being  goes from birth; it is the perfect place to form the man and woman complete. Also the bible says  the family is a divine institution.

          Well, the family is the best thing that God gave us. So, you should be tolerant, patient and humble with your family. Love, respect and unión   it’s the base for a good or stable family.

                 The benefits of drinking 8 glasses of water a day.

          According to Promax Nutrition, the human body is made up of 55 to 60% water. So, drinking  water is very necessary for the health of your body for several reasons. Water maintains control of the digestive system; also, helps your kidneys eliminate toxins. The people who drink 8 glasses of  water are healthier and have less  likely to get cancer. When you drinking water you can lose weight by curbing you appetite.

       If all the time you feel very tired it could be because you do not drink enough water for that reason the body does not work well, and fatigue is one of the first signs of dehydration. Another point in favor of water is the treatment of headaches and migraines. Headaches and migraines are often caused by dehydration, so, drinking water helps to reduce the headaches. Also the water helps keep the  skin looking good. The skin contains a lot of water, and functions as a protective  barrier to prevent  fluid loss; if you do not drink water, the skin becomes dehydrated.

       There are many people who do not like drinking water, and they don’t know that water can  help keep us alert. If you are going to need to concentrate for long periods of time, drink water to help you stay refreshed, hydrated, and focused because the dehydration can affect your attention and  memory. It also helps us think more clearly because when we do not drink enough water, our brain has to work a lot harder to perform its functions. One study even found that students who brought water  to the tests did better on their exams.

          In adition, the water is very important for the body. So, drink 6 or 8 glasess at day, the health, the concentration and the weight are going to improve.

    

            

  

Article # 2

       The animals are a creation of God all them are very important for the planet;  they already fulfill a function in the land. One of the most beautiful animals are  the butterflies; My favorites are the monarch butterflies and blue morpho butterflies, besides providing great beauty on the planet; they are very necessary for many things, for example, serve as food for the other animals also are very important in the pollination process, if the plants are not pollinated the seeds are not produced. For this article I decided to talk about the monarch butterfly.

       According to National Geographic Monarchs are big and very easy to recognize because they have a beautiful orange and black color. They live in North, Central and South America as well Australia. The orange color in this butterfly prevents predators from eating it; they are poisonous. A curious fact is that the monarchs emigrate every year, when the cold is approaching. So, they fly to the  south,  southern California or the center of Mexico. These butterflies return to the same place every year and can find the same tree that as their ancestors.

        The monarchs only live a few months and none makes the travel again. At the end of Winter the monarchs mate then the male butterfly die, the female butterfly lays the eggs on plants then also die. The complete process of egg to butterfly is known as metamorphosis, and  after one months the new butterfly is born and all the process is repeated again.

ARTICLE # 1

   I love the beaches; I think  beaches are wonderful places created  by God, that´s why I am going to write about some of the best beaches in the world. According National Geographic  there are 21 beaches chosen as the best. The Love  Beach, Marietas Islands, Mexico. This is an amazing beach, known by people as the “Hidden Beach.” The beach has an almost invisible opening, it seems that the beach of love is inside a hole,and it is surrounded by a ring of rocks. Also only six visitors at time can visit “Love Beach.”

    

 Another beach chosen as one of the best beaches in the world is “Cathedrals Beach, Ribadeo, Spain”. This beach, has 100 foot high rock arches similar to “Gothic Cathedrals.”

      Third beach is Anse Source d’Argent, La Digue, Seychelles: this beach have turquoise waters, snow white sand, and palm trees. This beach is amazing and it is the most photographed  beach in the world.

   

 Shell Beach, Shark Bay, Western Australia: this is a gorgeous beach, and is one of my favorites because  all the beach is full of beautiful white shells and seeing this must be amazing.

       Papakolea Beach; It is located in Hawaii. This beach gets its verdant good looks from tiny crystals  called olivine, found rocks, and to get there  are to walk 2 miles but it’s ok, it is to see a beach with green sand.

      Pink Beach is another of my favorites beaches, and it is located in Philippines, and as its name say it  this beach has a pink sand, so, for me this is wonderful. That color comes from billions of pieces of crushed red organ pipe coral and thanks to that the “Pink Beach” has a great number of visitors.

 

 

  

    Pelican Beach, South Water Caye, Belize. This beach, is the only place in Belize where you can swim safely on the reef and explore the South Water Caye  Marine Reserve, and you can see, full of colorful corals, angelfish, blue tang, sea turtles, and in less of 20 feet of water

Journal # 12

      At the begining of the class, my classmates and I said the reading report about the chapter 11 of the book The Picture of Dorian Gray as usual. This chapter was interesting, entertaining and I liked too much and for my classmates this chapter was amazig, we really did not expected everything that happened in this chapter. In  this chapter Basil saw the portrait and an exclamation of horror broke from Halward’s lips. The portrait had something in it’s  expression that filled him with disgust and loathind.

      Basil could not believe it and said what does this mean?  And  Dorian explained him when you finished the portrait in a mad moment I made a wish. After that, Basil asked him to pray, but Dorian said, is too late and Basil said it’s never too late Dorian,  let us kneel down and try. But Dorian suddenly felt an uncontrollable hatred for Basil, so with knife that was there Dorian dug the knife into the great vein that is behind the ear  and stabbing again and again. About this chapter I believe that Dorian calculated all very well and had no remorse.

       After that, the teacher told us to work with the final working group. So, we worked on the topic The Importance of Implement the reading in the classroom. Well, Adriana, Laura and I finished the justification, we reviewed  the specific objectives, general  objectives and the statement problem we already had. This work is very difficult and very long but we had already taken  the course of  investigation methodology and this, will facilate the work, although  this work is very complicated.

         Well, Holy  Week will be very different  because we have a lot of University work and in the  others courses  we also have to do a lot of homework, so we will get together to do the final work of the course  reading strategies  after that we have to do  the exposition for this work.

       Well this class was very important because we worked on the final project, and it permited  us to advance in this work and thus finish it  faster.

Journal # 11

         In that class my classmates and I said the reading report  number ten about the book the Picture of Dorian Gray. The chapter ten was a little different, exciting  and very short. My classmates said this chapater was very interesting.

           In the chapter 10: After  a long time Basil returns to see Dorian. Basil wanted to tell him that they are talking terrible things about him and he need to know if it’s true. He can not believe it because he thinks Dorian is so pure. Basil also said him, I want you to stay away from those people but Basil thinks Dorian is incapable  of doing these things, but for that  I have to see your soul  but only God can. So Dorian decided to show him his soul and said to Basil come “I will show you my soul, my diary, there it is all written”. Of course he refers to the portrait.

             After that,  the teacher told us to finish the formal letter, this letter we started the last Thursday.  Then, my classmates read the formal letter, my classmate Adriana and I didn’t read because the teacher had already reviewed it.

           On the other hand, the teacher written in the blackboard about  the beatiful test, this was very funny. Well for this exam we have to study everything we have seen in this course. For example we will had to study: The picture of Dorian Gray (personal questions), scanning and skimming, main idea, secondary ideas, supporting  details context clues and many others. The teacher explained all this topics and how to study all this for the exam.

            Then the teacher told us  to do a summary about all  the topics for the exam. I think this exam will be on May 4, but I am not sure. This exam will be difficult because there are  many topics it that we have to study.

           Well to conclude this journal I just have to say that, this class was different, not we saw new topics, only talked about the chapter 10 of the book The Picture of Dorian Gray and we talked of the topics for the next exam. So, I think the idea of the teacher of  make a summary for to study was excellent because us permited practice and remember everything seen in this course.

     The last class started at 5:00pm.  My  classmates and I said the oral report about the chapter nine of the book the picture  of Dorian Gray.

      The majorite of my classmates said that the chapter nine was very bored and very long. In my coment I said: For many years  Dorian  couldn’t free himself from the memory  of the book and this book was given by Lord Harry in chapter eight. Is interesting  because seemed to tell the story of Dorian.

      On the other hand, the portrait  has aged while, Dorian was very young and handsome. Dorian was in love of his own beauty and  the young men admired to Dorian and some copied his mode of dressing and his style. The people didn’t know how someone like him was could have escaped of his age. I think who Dorian has many time because he practiced many things, some are: jewelry, the art the turned his attention to embroideries.

        For the other hand the teacher explained and showed how to write formal emails and then we worked in couples. I worked with Adriana and we practice about it. She sent me an email and I sent her other. For example my email for her was:

Hello Adriana.

       Can you helpme please with my oral report, it is for next Monday.

        Then in the Dropbox we  read and summarize an information about Writing Effective letters  and for practice this topic we made  a formal letter, the letter was for Miss Yerlin from Clara Patricia.

To conclude this journal, I think the class was very important because we learned how to make a letter and a formal email and know that is very necessary.
